The Water Environment Association of SC (WEASC) and the SC Section of the American Water Works Association (SCAWWA) are committed to helping students access information that is helpful on your journey to begin a career in the water and wastewater industry.

How to Get Involved

Getting involved in WEASC and SCAWWA is a great way to open your world to financial, leadership, and professional development opportunities. There are several student membership options:

 

  • WEASC student membership 
    Free. Includes access to networking events, reduced registration rates for workshops, and a subscription to The Journal, the official publication of WEASC and SCAWWA. Join now

  • WEF & WEASC student membership
    $20 per year. Includes access to WEF resources as well as WEASC membership. Join now

  • AWWA & SCAWWA student membership
    $20 per year. Includes SCAWWA membership and access to networking events, reduced registration rates for workshops, and a subscription to The Journal. Join now

 

As a member, you'll have access to educational resources and networking opportunities, including social events, workshops, and our annual SC Environmental Conference, which includes a student poster competition. Visit our calendar page for a full list of upcoming events. Also check out job postings for links to open positions in the water industry across our state.

 

Student Chapters

Several colleges and universities have active student chapters, and our Young Professionals Committee hosts periodic socials and an annual workshop for students and those new to the water/wastewater industry. Scholarships

WEASC and SCAWWA offer several categories of scholarships to support young people interested in pursuing a career in the water industry and to help current water professionals access continuing education opportunities. 

  1. WEASC Legacy of Learning Fellowships and Scholarships
    These are administered by schools, so contact the school directly to apply. See below for the list of scholarships.

  2. WEASC District Scholarships
    Several of WEASC's 10 districts offer scholarships. See details below for more information. 

  3. SCAWWA Scholarships
    These scholarships are administered by SCAWWA and include the Legacy of Learning Scholarships for college students studying environmental science and the SCAWWA One Scholarship for Water/Wastewater Operators. See details and applications below.

WEASC District Scholarships

The following Water Environment Association of SC districts offer scholarships. Details are listed below for each. 

Blue Ridge Foothills District

Anderson, Greenville, Oconee, Pickens, and Spartanburg Counties

 

Amount: 

Varies each year

Eligibility:

Be a SC resident living or working in the counties of the Blue Ridge Foothills District (Anderson, Greenville, Oconee, Pickens, or Spartanburg Counties) or be a family member of a member of the Blue Ridge Foothills District in good standing. Must be pursuing a degree in any Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) field. See application for full list of eligibility requirements.

Capital District

Fairfield, Newberry, Lexington, and Richland Counties

 

Amount: 

$2,500

Eligibility:

Must be an active Capital District Member in good standing or an immediate family member of an active district member who is in good standing. Must be a full-time or part-time student with a minimum course load of six hours at an accredited institution of higher learning. Refer to the application package for additional eligibility requirements.

SCAWWA Scholarships

The South Carolina Section of the American Water Works Association (SCAWWA) offers scholarships annually. These scholarships are administered by the SCAWWA.

 

SCAWWA Legacy of Learning Scholarships

The Legacy of Learning Scholarships were established to support young people who are interested in pursuing a career in the water industry and are for college students studying environmental sciences.

 

SCAWWA Legacy of Learning Scholarship Application (PDF)

Application deadline: December 31

 

SCAWWA One Operator Scholarship

This $1,000 scholarship is offered for Water/Wastewater Operator training and education. It may be used for certification/licensure, water/wastewater related certificate or degree, technical college program, professional training program, books and manuals, and water/wastewater related conferences. Each scholarship recipient will receive a one-year AWWA Operator membership.
