SCEC Competitions

Every day operators and technicians must operate treatment facilities, solve problems, respond to emergencies, and perform analyses related to our water, wastewater treatment and the collection systems. Few know about the behind-the-scenes work performed every day by South Carolina's professionals.

The 2020 SCEC will once again play host to the exciting operational challenges you've seen in the past.

Our Student Poster Competition has continued to grow over the years. We are excited to once again offer this opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students from across the state to present their research to over 1,600 water professionals attending SCEC.

Two students will be given the chance to represent South Carolina at WEFTEC and ACE later in the year. Please stop by and talk with these talented students in the Exhibit Hall and learn about their exciting work that may be the next big break-through in the water industry!

Submitting a Poster

Please complete the Poster Submission Form and Poster Waiver Form below along with a one-page abstract describing the subject of the poster presentation. The deadline for for submitting poster abstracts is January 31, 2020.

Student posters will be displayed and judged as a part of the South Carolina Environmental Conference (SCEC) technical program, which covers various topics regarding water and wastewater treatment, including operations and maintenance, water distribution, wastewater collection, biosolids, engineering and construction, industrial environmental concerns, non-point source pollution, customer service, public education, water quality, and sustainability.

The poster session will be held Monday, March 16, 2020. Students may register for the full conference at a reduced rate of $65, which includes the Sunday Exhibitor Reception, one Luncheon, Operator Breakfast, and the Grand Finale. A one-day registration is also available to students at no charge. (Poster presenters are not required to attend the entire conference.) Please complete the registration form above to attend the conference.

Poster Awards

There will be two state honors presented on behalf of SCAWWA and WEASC. These honors offer the

winners the opportunity to attend and present their work at the national conference of each sponsoring Association. The AWWA Annual Conference and Exhibition will be held in Orlando, FL on June 14-17, 2020, and the WEFTEC Annual Technical Exhibition & Conference will be in New Orleans, LA on October 5 – 7, 2020. Monetary recognition for the overall 2nd, 3rd and 4th place presentations will also be provided.
