SCEC 2020, March 15-18, 2020, Myrtle Beach Convention Center

SCEC 2020 Cancelled

(March 30, 2020)—On behalf of the SCAWWA and WEASC leadership, we hope you and your families are safe and healthy. As you know, suspension of the 2020 SCEC was a difficult decision for the Association leadership, but as events have continued to unfold it has become increasingly clear that this was the correct decision to protect the health of everyone who would have attended the conference and the broader community. With the status of the coronavirus being uncertain in the next few months, the 2020 SCEC is now being cancelled. We are exploring ways to offer some of the technical presentations via a distance learning platform.

Public health protection was, and is, our number one concern, but this decision has resulted in a financial impact for the Association. Our cancellation insurance does not cover a pandemic of this type, so the Association is responsible for certain contractual and other financial obligations. We are prepared as an Association to pay these from our cash reserves. Our host hotel, the Sheraton and Myrtle Beach Convention Center, has been working with us and we are very appreciative that they will not charge us any penalties from cancelling the contract for this year. However, we will experience a significant loss of income from not hosting the conference.

If you are a sponsor or exhibitor, your company has already been recognized in pre-conference printed material mailed to our entire membership and advertised on our web site. Therefore, we are offering those who have sponsored this event, or who were scheduled to exhibit at the conference, an opportunity to voluntarily forego a refund. If you are an exhibitor and choose this option, your fees already paid will be converted to a sponsorship. We do recognize that as a company you may also be experiencing financial difficulties, so we will also issue a refund, or partial refund, if you desire.

If you are registered for the conference, we are offering those who have registered for this event to voluntarily forego a refund and have your registration converted to a donation to the Association. We will send you a letter stating the dollar value of your donation that may be tax-deductible. If you would like a full or partial refund, we will process those by the method of payment you provided. Credit card refunds will be refunded quicker than checks.

Please send an email to by April 30, 2020, indicating your preference to either seek a full or partial refund or forego a refund in lieu of sponsorship. We value our relationship with each of you, and we could not have a successful SCEC without your generosity and participation. We consider you part of the SCEC family, and we are already looking forward to next year’s conference which will be bigger and better than ever.

About SCEC

From its inaugural year in 1990, the South Carolina Environmental Conference (SCEC) has been growing and building on success for the last 29 years.

This popular annual event provides environmental and water professionals from across the southeast an opportunity to receive up to 12 hours of professional training, meet with equipment and service vendors and network with other professionals in a fun and educational atmosphere.

The SCEC is held over three full days during mid-March each year in Myrtle Beach, SC. The 2020 SCEC will be held March 15-18, 2020, where it is expected that over 1,600 professionals will be in attendance at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.
