Chair's Column

Happy New Year, everyone! – I hope you all enjoyed the holiday season, finished out 2019 in fine fashion, and are ready to take on the next decade. Oh, and good luck with whatever resolutions you made!  I don’t know how it is for you, but it seems to me that time passes faster and faster with each successive year. I realized at our last executive committee meeting that I am halfway through my year as district chair, but it feels like I started out only a couple of months ago! The good news is that the Capital District is still afloat, with a good probability that it will stay that way for the foreseeable future, so I am meeting my number one goal so far.

The previous issue of the Clarifier was published right on the heels of the rescheduled Mid-Year and September Capital District meetings, and was mailed out about the time of the rescheduled golf tournament, so those events were not covered in that issue. Therefore, I will brag about them now. All three events were a great success in my estimation, and were very well attended to have been rescheduled.  We had a great lineup of speakers to address workforce recruitment and retention at the Mid-Year meeting, a short District meeting, and a successful golf tournament with a surprise winning team – jk, it was the same team as always. We had fabulous weather for all three events, and wonderful food and fellowship as well, which is par for the course (pun intended) for the District. Please see the photos in this issue for evidence of the fun that was had. Many thanks to Jason Fell and Phillip Dieckmann for their efforts on the Mid-Year meeting and the golf tournament, respectively, and to the executive committee, the volunteers, and especially the many sponsors involved with all three events. The weather was in fact so spectacular for the Mid-Year meeting that next year’s Mid-Year and “September” Capital District meetings have been scheduled for October 8, 2020, in an effort to find a bit cooler weather.  This is your way-too-early save-the-date notification for those meetings.

The golf tournament will likely be scheduled adjacent to the Mid-Year meeting, as is typical, but folks did seem to like the earlier starting time, so we may go with that again.

An executive committee meeting was held on December 5, sponsored and hosted by Weston & Sampson.  The meeting was small in number and short on time, but we got done what we needed to get done.

Looking ahead, our next District meeting will be January 16, 2020 at the Lexington Municipal Complex, sponsored by the Town of Lexington and the Joint Municipal Water and Sewer Commission. Please see page 4 of this issue for details. Hope to see you there!

Well, that’s all I’ve got to say. As always, if you have any questions or ideas for, or concerns about the Capital District, please reach out to an executive committee member and we’ll see what we can do.

Take care,

-Rick
