Group Update

Laura Manning: The Catawba Women in Water held their fall gathering on Friday, October 18^th at Rock Hill’s Manchester Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant. The hour-long walking tour took the members through the treatment process from the influent pump station to the treated effluent’s arrival at the Catawba River, in addition to discussing current plans for upgrades. The group enjoyed viewing the tunnel, the vintage trickling filters, and the new 8-million-gallon equalization basins. The plant will change dramatically over the coming years as it is upgraded from 20 MGD to 30 MGD, receives a new biosolids handling facility, and converts to utilizing peracetic acid.

Boxes will be passed out soon for the group’s second annual holiday food/toy drive for a local women’s shelter.  Keep an eye out for our next event in January.
