Chair's Column

Chilly mornings, frosted car windows, college bowl games, family members visiting for the holidays to raid your pantries, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, and the Clemson Tigers in another football playoff.  It must be December!  2017 is coming to an end and WEASC is heading down the home stretch.

With December here, WEASC Capital District is focusing its efforts on the annual awards meeting in January at the Lexington County Municipal Complex.  We hope to have another exciting awards banquet to recognize the members who have gone above and beyond in their career duties.  I would like to congratulate the award recipients and good luck towards the state awards.

In this issue of the Clarifier, you'll see that we’ll also be voting on a rules change to help clarify our awards committee selection and the auditing process for the fiscal year. Please read through the changes and be prepared for a vote at the next Capital District business meeting in Lexington.  Also at the next business meeting, we’ll be voting in the new slate of officers to serve the district for 2018-2019.

Clint Riley

As we enter 2018, we will all be in SCEC mode for March.  The Conference Management Committee has been hard at work preparing for the 2018 SCEC.  We’re hoping for another record breaking year for the organizations.  Thank you to the sponsors who have already made their pledge to support SCEC 2018.

Thank you also to the membership and the Executive Committee for the support you have given to the District and to me as your Chair.  I want to wish you all a safe and happy holidays.  Please take time to thank all the water professionals whom will be away from their families during times of this season.  The mission of safe drinking water and a safe environment never takes a holiday.

As always for our members; promote the advancement of the water environment profession, protect and enhance our environment, and build alliances with others for the betterment of the world we live in.

If you have any input or suggestions to make to the WEASC Capital District, please feel free to pass them along to clint.riley@aecom.com.
